Egypt’s Golden Empire [Day 6: Philae Temple, Unfinished Obelisk and High Dam]

Day 6 of our adventure included the temple of Philae (as I said previously this means “Heart” and they named it this way because this is where Isis found the heart of Osiris when Seth killed him), we also went to visit the unfinished obelisk of Queen Hatshepsut and the High Dam.

Egyptians say that all of the crocodiles are on the other side of the High dam and that there are no such creatures along the Nile river anywhere in Egypt. But who knows..

Regarding the obelisk: Queen Hatshepsut wanted to build a whole obelisk of pure gold, however she could not collect so much, so she was proposed an obelisk of granite instead which would then be covered with gold on the outside. This is the largest known ancient obelisk. Weights around 1200 tons and they carved it directly into the stone with other, harder rocks and then polished it with sand. Sadly that it cracked while they worked on it, so they never finished it.

Below you can see the Philae temple, the unfinished obelisk as well as the high dam and the lake Nasser behind it.
