I was dreaming for this trip for a long time, but before having time to think about it, I had to do many other stuff that took all of my attention and I didn’t really have time to think about this trip too much. Finally two days before the trip, I realized that another childhood dream of mine is about to come true and that’s EGYPT! So I wanted everything to be perfect, but things didn’t start so well..
We went to catch our flight on Apr 4th, 2015 at the Sofia Airport Terminal 2, they’ve just finished the metro so we had to test it out (really beautiful new stations BTW). Anyway, we caught our flight to Istanbul with Turkish Airlines, of course from the pressure I felt the first signs of a headache which grew fast to a real awful headache.
We had only one hour to catch the next flight to Cairo from Istanbul, but once we were on the plane for Istanbul, they told us that because of the air traffic in Istanbul, there would be a delay of 50 min o.O I was stressed out, that meant that no matter what we do, we’ll miss our connection to Cairo, followed by messed up plans for the coming day in Cairo and we had only one day in Cairo. Surprisingly our flight was pretty short and they told us that the flight to Cairo was on gate 222. Then we ran a bit and got into the first bus to the airport and we saw gate 222. The bus driver parked aprx 10 gates away from ours and we had 15 more min, so we had to just walk fast and could do it. Yees, but no.. when we saw the screens the flight to Cairo was already on LAST CALL, and we panicked and ran.. I don’t have training and almost died a few times, I could easily lose consciousness, but we made it!! We caught the flight.. I’ve never ran as much as I did for this plane.. and I will NEVER fly this way again – minimum 2 hrs before boarding to the next one.. My breathing and lungs recovered for the whole flight to Cairo, I felt better after our plane landed. God bless Turkish Airlines for the awesome little pillow they gave me, so that I could survive..
Our guide was waiting for us at the airport and we went to take our baggage.. HOWEVER we couldn’t take it as after half an hour waiting, we asked and they told us that the bags are still in Istanbul. GREAT, JUST GREAT! It seems we were going to visit the pyramids under the hot sun with long pants and closed shoes.. why not, I even had a sweater in case I feel cold.
In the morning our guide and our driver came to pick us up from the hotel and we started out REAL vacation:
1. We first went to the pyramids, because they were really close to our hotel (and visible from it). THIS WAS AN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE.. We entered in one small pyramid for free, took lots of interesting pictures and rode a camel to the panoramic view (for 200 Le + some tips), bought souvenirs and enjoyed so much!!!
2. Then we went to the Papyrus museum where we were told how the papyrus paper is done from the actual plant – the cover is first removed, then the stable is cut in thin pieces, pressed so that the water could go out and the paper could get thinner and stronger, then the pieces are put in water for seven days (for creamy color) or more (for brown color) and then you take each piece and make them cross each other in horizontal and vertical way until you have an A4 size for example.
3. We went to the museum to see king Tutankhamen’s jewelry, sarcophagus and the golden mask. This was amazing too! The mask is 11 Kg of Pure gold! It was put on the head of the mummy of the king. The mummy was in a sarcophagus, made of pure gold, then this sarcophagus was in a bigger one made of wood and gold and that one was in a bigger one again made of wood and gold.
4. Finally we had lunch in a buffet on a ship in Nile and went to the airport to get our luggage which has arrived in the meantime.
